ROTATIONAL TRANSLATION STAGES

These rotary translation stages use flexure springs to constrain motion to highly repeatable angular motions in one or more degrees of freedom. They can also be combined with linear translation stages to enable linear plus rotational control. Contact us for more details on designing and building flexure devices.

Virtual-axis Rotary Translation Stage

This rotary stage produces a near pure rotation about the center of the 5 x 5 block. Note that the two leaf springs would continue to meet at the center of the 5 x 5 block, thereby producing a virtual axis. Adding two more springs will create a stiffer, over-constrained design, but there will be less shift in the virtual axis.

Cross-hinge Rotary Translation Stage

This one-axis rotational stage features 15° of range and sub-arcsecond resolution. It was designed to mount on a coarse adjust Thorlabs stage that has 15° resolution. One is currently being used for investigating and characterizing angular effects of artifacts measured in a Zeiss Metrotom X-ray system.

Tip-Tilt-Z Translation Stage

This adjustment stage provides two angular degrees of freedom - pitch and yaw about the vertical axis - with ranges more than ±10° and a linear degree of freedom (vertical displacement) with a range of a few millimeters. It uses flexures to produce exact constraint, resulting in a robust and rigid structure with large range.
